Teacher Saves Another Teacher's Life

Teacher saves another teacher’s life while watching a volleyball game.

Beth Shay, a teacher from Hershey, PA was just sitting watching her daughter’s volleyball game.  The next thing she knew, she was performing CPR on Kathy Hutchinson a teacher from Middletown, PA.  Hutchinson had collapsed for unknown reasons, and was unresponsive.  Shay who had take a CPR class previously, didn’t think about what she was doing, it just became automatic as she did it.  Doctors have run a slew of tests on Hutchinson, but are unsure what caused her collapse.

Shay was recognized by the Derry Township School District for her reaction to the crisis.  Shay and Hutchinson met for lunch recently to get to know each other and Hutchinson could thank Shay.  Because a teacher saves another teacher’s life, we should all consider learning CPR.  For up-to-date news accounts of this story, photos and to post a comment, please access the links below:
